Neon Vests or Blue Uniforms?

It’ll be another week until we find out whether or not FAUPD will be stopping people from skating/biking/rollerblading through the Breezeway.

A few days ago, Boca Gov. Ryan Ebanks told me he’d meet with FAUPD this week. The reason: to get the cops to enforce FAU’s No Boards, Bikes, or Blades in the Breezeway policy for September Safety Week.

At today’s GAC meeting, I asked him if he’d met with FAUPD yet. He said, that he and former Boca House rep Charles Berichi would meet with FAUPD Chief Charles Lowe “some time next week” to talk about it. If Lowe agrees, then campus cops will stop students on wheels in the Breezeway.

If not, then there’ll just be neon-vest-clad Safety Week volunteers who’ll “probably have to stop them in a polite manner,” Ebanks said. “I’m going to have to talk to advisers to find a less abrasive way of doing it.”

Either way, those volunteers will be there, according to Ebanks.

Watch for an update by next Friday.

  1. Is this really a problem? Have people been hurt by bikes/boards/blades? I’ve never, ever had an issue with it in all my years at FAU.
