SG Photo of the Week

Boca House Representative Charles Berichi (third from left, FAU T-shirt) spent more than an hour of the April 16 Boca House meeting webcamming on Skype and playing Flash games. This photo was taken five minutes after Speaker Alan Pollock said, “You should not be online during these meetings.” Berichi continued to play Flash games during this week’s meeting, the last of the semester. (Although he did participate in both meetings.)

  1. Seriously? Says:

Do you think this is a problem? I think it is actually comical. The guy is human. Yes, he should have turned it off after he was told not to be on it. But, you mentioned that he participated in both meetings. Find some more interesting news. Like, what is going on in the House? I could care less if Mr. Berichi is playing flash games. I want to know what they are doing in the House. I want to know how they are planning to make my school better. Tell me what the schedule is. What bills have been passed? Not just people in SG read your posts.

  2. Mr. “Seriously,”

Thanks for the comment. There will actually be a series of more substantive blog posts starting tomorrow, although the House won’t be meeting for another two weeks.

To address your comments on this particular post:

Of course he’s human — like everybody else. He’s also an elected representative of 28,000 students. I’m not passing judgment; that’s for my readers. I wouldn’t bother saying he participated if I just wanted people to bash him.

And it’s precisely that “human” element which is “interesting news” to most people, and the details of legislation that are usually more interesting to “just people in SG.” But you’re certainly right I don’t address legislation that’s been passed frequently enough, and if that’s something you’re interested in, I’m glad to hear it and will consider that for future postings.

Again, I appreciate the comment and the readership.

    Cheers,
    Brandon.

  3. Dont be hatin on Berichi Says:

I bet Mr. Seriously is in the House, I mean I could be wrong but I wouldnt be surprised if he is.

However I Do agree with the concept that if you’re going to put this kind of stuff up, you should ALSO put up info on whats going on in the House as well, be it bills and whatnot. There’s been so much issue over BSUMP over the past weeks and months going back to last summer and the lack of coverage on the matter is alarming in my opinion.

  4. “Don’t be hatin,”

Spot on point. BSU&MP is exactly where I’m headed with the series of posts I mentioned in the previous comment. The first of those will be up in a couple hours.

    Cheers,
    Brandon.

  5. Seriously? Says:

I’m actually Ms. Seriously. Haha. 100% female and 100% not in the house. If I was in the house, would I have needed to know what was going on in it or mentioned that not everyone is in it? I do want to know what is going on with the BSUMP as “Dont be hatin on Berichi” says because I barely know what is going on with it.

But, don’t get me wrong, pictures like this are comical and I do understand that he represents 28,000 students. I just want info on the house! I didn’t know that they won’t be meeting for another two weeks, so I’ll just wait and see what goes down. Thanks for keeping everyone updated on what is going on!

  6. Ms. Seriously,

    Sorry for assuming your gender!

If you have specific, personal questions about the House (i.e., you want to get involved, or understand a particular aspect of SG) feel free to e-mail me at the address in the sidebar.

If you’re waiting on more coverage: it’s coming. Thanks again.

    Cheers,
    Brandon.

  7. Reppin' in da House Says:

We is not meaning to do no harm in da House. Best be lookin’ out for the students and not lil’ stuff like homies on Skype. More important stuff be goin’ down in tha student governwizzle.

  8. This is the skepticism that public media brings us. The masses take a look at the words of one individual and has no reference to the “affirmative legislation” of the work done by the creators of this body. A picture is worth a thousand words, but actions speak louder than words…

    Knowledge is free.
    We are Anonymous.
    We are Legion.
    We do not forget.
    Expect us.

  9. This story reminds me of when I was in Boca-FAU’s SG (Then called the Senate). We used to have our SG meetings on Thursdays. The meetings would always start at 5pm. Sometimes these meetings (especially during budget time) would go deep into the evening; but our meetings never went past 10pm.

Anyways, there was this one Senator who I remember in particular; her name is/was Jenna Sereni. I remember this Senator because she had a knack for making utterly unintelligent comments.

One Thursday evening, while the Senate was in session (probably around 7pm), Ms. Sereni raises her hand as if to make a Point of Order but instead makes one of the most ridiculous comments that I ever heard during my time in student Government. She said, “Uh… I was just wondering how much longer we have to be here because I would really like to go home and watch American Idol.” Her face was dead-panned. She was as serious as Aids in the continent of Africa. Nearly the entire Senate chambers was flabbergasted. We could not believe our ears. Some Senators reacted very negatively; “If you don’t want to be here nobody is going to stop you from leaving.”

After about a minute of rancorous comments, Ms. Sereni attempts to portray her question as a joke. Anyone who was there that day can and will tell you that she looked dead serious and continued to do so until the chambers became loud and unruly.

There were also other Senators that used to bring in their Dinner from Chartwells in a styrofoam box and eat their meal while the meeting was going on. I am not just talking about once or twice. This Senator would come to every meeting and eat his dinner in front of us all. I apologize for not remembering his name.

My point is this; obviously these people (Senator Sereni, Senator Chartwells and Representative Berichi) do not really want to be a Senator. My guess is that they want the title so that they have something purdy to go onto their resume. Obviously these students have better thing to do than a responsible job.

Now I am not saying that these people are bad people. Not at all. But there is no doubt in my mind that this behavior is unprofessional at best and unethical at worst. Actions like these make all FAU students look bad.

That is some fine representing you are doing there Lou!

  10. sweet 16 Says:

    Shame, shame Berichi.

  11. Yo Dan, get a life buddy lol you should have Brandon’s job

  12. I hear she stole the Gavels too Says:

Wow Dan, nice with that very impressive story, and trust me, I’ve heard very interesting things about Sereni as well. But lets be honest, there are people who dont make stupid comments, who dont eat food during the meetings, who dont skype or use computers, and do things pretty much according to protocol, but even they can give two shits about the students are just want something on their resume or a paid position too.

It’s a disease in that place, but its prevalent in any SG, and in our State and National Government its mostly personal as well.

But dont make it seem like its just these kinds of ppl who are the problem, what makes me more sick are the people who on an official public level act all according to rules but when you really get to know them are full of it.

  13. I never did say (or would say) that it is just these people (i.e. people who do not take SG meeting seriously with respect to their actions) that are the problem. I was addressing the point of people/students who are self-distracted during the SG meetings.

When I left Student Government to go work for the University Press (i.e. actually doing good/result based work for the student body) I learned a great quote about SG.

“The only thing worse than a politician is an amateur politician.”

There are more self-inflated egos in SG than in any other club at FAU (Yes I said club; SG is a glorified club with a huge budget that they are required to share with other clubs). Sadly, if students want to better their school (and themselves) they cannot make a worse choice than joining SG. Those SG members who disagree are either too ignorant to see the truth or too invested in their egos to admit it.

  14. Hey LOL…

Get a real name or quit being a pussy and lend some credibility to your thoughts and opinions. That is of course assuming that your real name has any credibility to lend, which I doubt. Bitch.

  15. I see Dan still has yet to find a life and is sadly still lurking in the business of an organization he claims to hate so much. Its a shame our alumni have nothing better to do with their time. Ya know Dan if you took even half of the attention you put into bashing SG and others on this blog and focused it on something useful like say playing the stock market, or even working toward a promotion or something useful maybe you can make something of yourself so you can give back to this University and make FAU a better place for the Student Body. As an alum you should be encouraging new students who may read this blog to join SG and make it a better organization, to not forget why they are there and who they are serving. Until then your not even close to being a part of the solution to what you believe is wrong with this place but only another piece of the problem.

  16. ed,

my thoughts exactly! thanks for having a brain

    and to dan,

    go fuck yourself.

  17. Mr. Papa_Georgio Says:

    Hi,
My nama Borat. Here in Kazakhstan we have three major problems: Economic, Social, and Jew.
I can see from my many visits that the house which you peoples speak of also has three major problems: Bullshit Artists like this Brandon, in the closet homosexuals like Mr Dan, and of course… Jew.
    Chinkwe

  18. Ed,

“I see Dan still has yet to find a life and is sadly still lurking in the business of an organization he claims to hate so much.”

Lurking? Ha! I read the University Press because it is one of the few things that FAU students have to be proud of. If I showed up to a student government meeting then you might have a point; but I didn’t, so you don’t.

“Its a shame our alumni have nothing better to do with their time.”

This may be; but what is more sad (shameful) is the state of affairs with our Student Government. Students that actually have great ideas and who work hard to better the university are few and far between in Boca’s SG. This is primarily due to most students in SG treating SG like a popularity contest that can pad their resumes more than a duty to their fellow classmates.

“Ya know Dan if you took even half of the attention you put into bashing SG and others on this blog and focused it on something useful like say playing the stock market, or even working toward a promotion or something useful maybe you can make something of yourself so you can give back to this University and make FAU a better place for the Student Body.”

Nice run-on sentence. I am actually an English teacher (something a thousand times more rewarding than playing the stock market or whatever it is you have chosen to major in). The stock market eh? Didn’t the stick market just crash something like 300+ points? This is where you and I are fundamentally different. You value the opinions of others and money whereas I value truth and good grammar. The truth is your grammar sucks and FAU Boca’s SG is too filled with self-serving idiots for anything really productive to happen.

“As an alum you should be encouraging new students who may read this blog to join SG and make it a better organization, to not forget why they are there and who they are serving.”

I encourage all FAU students to make a difference. This is precisely why I argue that students who wish to make a difference should stay away from SG. The University Press makes more of a difference every week than SG makes in an entire year. It brings me no joy to say this, but that is what happens when your eyes are open and your conscious is conscious.

“Until then your not even close to being a part of the solution to what you believe is wrong with this place but only another piece of the problem.”

It is “you are” or “you’re, not “your.” Idiot. So long as idiots like yourself continue to patronize the SG there is little hope that things will change for the better. I validate your point about being optimistic; however being optimistic about FAU Boca’s SG riding itself of attention whores is analogous to being optimistic that there will be world peace in our lifetime. Could it happen? Sure. Is it probable? Not so much.

    Mr. Papa-Georgio,

Ha! I have laughed that hard since my penis got stuck in your father’s rectum and your mother had to fondle my testicles until I became flaccid and fell out. We almost had to call an ambulance, but her horrid face sure saved the day on that one.

Please send her my thanks (again).

  19. I had two typos. Sorry.

  20. Three actually.

  21. Damn you auto-spell check!!

  22. Brandon Says:

I’ve deleted the last posted comment here. It was a series of jabs about how into bestiality Dan is.

I’m generally not going to step into a flame war no matter what profanities, insults, or defamatory statements are flung about; as much as I wish for intelligent debate, I know better to expect it and I won’t step on people’s toes.

But I do take issue when people try to impersonate each other.

I get that some of you have no respect for each other and that it’s easy to be uncivil behind a screen of anonymity, but don’t use other people’s names. If I see that, I’ll delete it.

Otherwise, carry on about horse sex, the lack of life, and making pop culture Jew slurs.

Oh and Brandon; I would like to admit that I (technically) have had a brush with bestiality. Two brushes actually.

The first instance happened one evening years ago when in the middle of sex my girlfriends dog started licking my feet. Nothing more, nothing less.

I already mentioned the second instance in an earlier post (see 5 posts up; i.e. Mr. Papa Georgio’s mother). Woof!

  24. dan shut up ur a loooooooser, spell check that

  25. I’m a loser?

You can’t even nut-up enough to write your name.

Being called a loser by you is a compliment.

  26. Hello, my ah name a Borat. I like ah watch the politics of your house of representation. You make that women look pretty and they good on plow. Borat, what does that even mean?
    Consider me lost in translation.

  28. Grow the FUCK up. That is pathetic, you have no life and HATE SG. No one likes you or the UP.

  29. Brandon Says:

Congrats, that’s now the funniest comment on this entry. To me, anyway.
