Ayala, Ctd.

If you’re new to the whole issue, start here and find more updates here and here. For those anxious to see the police report, I’ve scanned the three pages of it. I haven’t altered it in any way from what the police department handed me. It should go without saying, but expect explicit (although relatively clinical) language.

OwlTV has also posted a video about Ayala.

It’s been a long, hectic day. We’ve gotten no response from Ayala, who’s still in jail. He should’ve received our letter requesting visitation rights by now, but when we called to ask this afternoon, the operator refused to answer whether he had or hadn’t. Basically, we won’t know anything unless Ayala calls us.

I tried to contact the president of Ayala’s frat, Pi Kappa Alpha, also known as the Pikes. I asked if we could speak to him on or off the record. The response: “NO” and nothing more. Greek Life Coordinator Ryan O’Rourke suggested that the local chapter may have been advised on the matter by its national counterpart, and so my editor called to ask. They acknowledged they’d heard about Ayala and had advised the local Pikes to let the police do their thing and put out a statement afterward, but they didn’t tell the chapter whether or not to talk to us and have no way of forcing a decision upon them. It’s also up to the local chapter whether or not to kick Ayala out.

We spoke with people in Student Affairs and found out Ayala’s been suspended from FAU for the interim. Standard procedure.

Well, those are the main things. I’m in sore need of sleep. More to come.

  1. That police report only further convinces me that ayala should fry for this. I have full faith our justice system will give ayala what he deserves.

  2. Chris should spend the rest of his life in jail and get some REAL help! Seriously how can a 13yr old look like a 16yr old? What there is not enough girls at FAU to have sex with?

  3. NASTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Sex Offender Says:

Just call me an idiot I guess… People are here defending their friend Chris. The great guy… right? The same great guy that after having sex with a girl he thought (BOD) was 16 and the girl told him that she was pregnant figured he would fix it by telling the girl to have sex with someone else her age and blame him for the pregnacy.. Yeah great guy.. But I guess he could be… hey David was a man after God’s own heart and he pretty much did the same thing with Bathsheba (Go read your Bible). So For this momnet I will equate David and Chris. And you know what they are both guilty as sin and no matter what the judge says he will pay for his sin… Just like King David did. I am not sitting on my perch and looking down on Chris b/c I know the devil has many tricks and only b/c of God’s Grace I have the right mind to keep away from situations like this. Imagine if people actually waited till they were married to have sex… We wouldn’t have these cases…. So to that extent many of us are sex offenders because we offend God by not waiting till marriage to have sex with anyone. Extreme Fornication has been my offense..

  5. Jim Throb Says:

Man what a sick fuck. I hope Chris Ayala goes away for a long time…

“During the call, Chris confirmed that he and xxxx had sex three times and that the first time he wore a condom, the second time he ejaculated in her mouth, and the third time was anal sex. Chris also told xxx that she had to have an abortion, but that she might need her parent’s consent, indicating that he knew that xxx was a minor. chris also told xxxx that she should have sex with someone her age and tell her parents that the younger person got her pregnant because he did not want to go to jail.”

“794.021 Ignorance or belief as to victim’s age no defense.–When, in this chapter, the criminality of conduct depends upon the victim’s being below a certain specified age, ignorance of the age is no defense. Neither shall misrepresentation of age by such person nor a bona fide belief that such person is over the specified age be a defense. “

  6. Wow! In my opinion, this is just plain wrong because the girl is SO young. How did he not know? And, even if he did believe that she was 16, wouldn’t he be concerned enough, as a 23-year-old, about her age?

This story, especially the police report, as lewd as it is, is important for the FAU community to know about. Brandon, I congratulate you for breaking the story and covering it so quickly on your blog! You’re definitely fulfilling your role as a good journalist and a good blogger. Keep us posted. I am curious to see what happens!

  7. Benjamin Says:

You’re an excellent journalist, Brandon: articulate, tenacious and proactive. If everyone at the UP performed their jobs as well as you do, we’d have the best student newspaper in Florida.

  8. What were his other 2 arrests? I heard one was for battery but what was the original? How can we get police reports from the other 2?

  9. One was for a bar fight in 2007, yes. I have that police report as well.

I’m not aware of any other criminal cases, although Ayala has had several traffic tickets in the past couple years and broke some municipal ordinance which could be the other thing mentioned in the report.

  10. Re: Sivan and Benjamin, thanks. I do my best as my time and ability allow, though I’m still learning.

And for the record, I didn’t break the initial story, the Palm Beach Post did. I just took it seriously where to them it was a short crime blurb and the Sun-Sentinel didn’t even cover it.

For FAU, it’s somewhat personal–for the tri-county area I guess it’s just business as usual. But that’s what the UP is for.

  11. Understanding the reasoning of the article I have problem, but if you may please use the appropriate terms instead of downgrading an organization. “Frat” is not the correct term, it is Fraternity. Even in the “submit comment” does not recognize this term with the red underline under “Frat.” Thank you very much.

  12. Fau Student Says:

I met this guy before and to tell you the truth, I’m completly surprised. Hes seemed like a great down to earth guy, I don’t understand why he would sleep with a 13 year old or even a 16 year old…he was somewhat of a ladies man, its not like he would have had problems with someone his age . Anyways thats not really the issue here… I think chris was decieved and if not, then wow, either way, hes going to have serious repercussions for his future, and Pikes going to have shit storm on them..they already have been known for putting drugs in girls cups.

  13. Spence, when I think of the word frat I think animal house. Now there are many similarities between animal house and Pike. 1. a member who slept with a 13 year old. 2. A really low GPA. 3. Lack of positive impact on campus 4. A bunch of tools (although some of them are pretty funny)

Now this is why Pikes are called a frat. Don’t ever ask someone not to call you fratboys and expect anything but laughter as a response.

  14. FAU Student Says:

What are all these incidents of putting “drugs” in girls cups? Why has this never come out? If this is such a common occurrence where is documentation of it happening or a police report? Is this true or just heresay? If it’s a common as you make it seem I think someone would have done something about it by now.

  15. Ted Steen Says:

    How about this? dated 2003

“Picture this: Young man is smitten with young woman he meets at a club or
a bar. He buys her a drink. But before she takes a sip, she produces a
small card from her purse, on which she places a couple drops of the
beverage. What are you doing? he asks apprehensively. Testing my drink for
date rape drugs, she replies sweetly. Ah, romance in the 21st century.

This is no far-fetched scenario. Florida Atlantic University’s student
government bought 4,000 date-rape drug detecting cards wholesale for
$4,000 recently and distributed them on FAU campuses free to students.”

    seems pretty common back then….

  16. want some ice for that burn

  17. BANGING UNDERAGE GIRLS IS NOT COOL WHETHER THEY’RE 16 OR 13. THAT IS ALL! IT DOESN’T MATTER THAT SHE LIED ABOUT HER AGE (and I personally believe the girl is a slut). HE KNEW SHE WAS UNDERAGE AND DID SOME PRETTY SICK SHIT WITH HER. THAT IS ALL!

  18. Holy crap, that guy stuck it in a 13 year old’s pooper.

Seriously what’s going on in his head for him to think it’s okay to go and sleep with (who apparently he thought) 16 year old girls? Makes me thing that it probably wasn’t the first time…

  19. How old do you have to be in Florida to obtain an abortion without a parental consent? I may be wrong, but I thought that it was 17.

    Brandon; a little help here?

  20. I’m not sure how well I understand the law but I believe in Florida you can have an abortion regardless of age, but under 18 the physician has to legally notify your parents with 48′ hours notice.

  21. Ayala should go to Saudi Arabia. The Saudis just upheld the marriage of an 8 year old girl.

  22. Anonymous Says:

In the letter from the editor about the race of the 13 year-old girl in the Alaya case, shouldn’t the most important aspect of the article be that the girl was THIRTEEN? Why do we need to print racial stereotypes about “…the young girl was black meant she must have been ‘more slutty'” or “suburban white girl”. WHAT?? SERIOUSLY, U.P? Playing the race card just takes away from the issue at hand.

    IT WAS A 13 YEAR-OLD GIRL, PERIOD.

I know the U.P has seriously enraged plenty of people on the FAU campus.

  23. The way i understand it and i could be wrong also is you can have an abortion regardless of age, but must obtain parental consent if under 18. i believe it was an issue we voted on about 4 years ago or so, its fairly new.

  24. The parental notification law was passed, but do you know the penalty if they don’t notify?

    nada.

  25. Any updates since his hearing on May 4th- I’ve been checking but haven’t seen any updates-
